The story of Final Fantasy VII centers around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete—-this reviewer gladly gave up over 80 hours of his life to finish it. Team Rainbow is a multinational task force comprising counter-terrorism experts from around the globe. Equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, Team Rainbow is deployed during terrorist crises. When all other attempts have failed, Rainbow is brought in to save the lives of innocent people. They do not negotiate with terror. They destroy it.

Rainbow began as an idea shared by John Clark and Domingo "Ding" Chavez. Clark, a former Navy SEAL and CIA operative, met Chavez during a covert operation in Colombia. During the operation, Chavez was rescued by Clark. After that mission, Chavez joined the Central Intelligence Agency. Clark and Chavez developed a mentor-student relationship over the course of several missions together.

Rainbow was created in 2000. Ding Chavez was made a Team Leader and began recruiting counter-terrorism operatives immediately. Experts in close-quarters combat, demolitions, electronics, surveillances, and reconnaissance were recruited. Snipers, hackers, soldiers, policemen, and contractors were all brought to Hereford, England, where Rainbow shares its headquarters with the British Special Air Service.

An Epic Story
This fast-paced third person shooter takes you across the vast and frozen landscapes of E.D.N. III. The ability to fight stealthily on-foot or from within heavily armored Vital Suits offers two unique modes of gameplay. While on foot, use the zip line to get up to strategic enemy-annihilating vantage point and discover unexplored areas and weapons. Or, jump into your own Vital Suit or hijack an enemy Snow Pirate's Vital Suit to go head to head with enormous and more powerful Akrid foes.

Lost Planet's highly anticipated multiplayer mode lets gamers participate in heated online matches in stages such as "Pirate Fortress" with support for up to 16 players via the Xbox Live¨ online game service. Players are able to select from multiple weapons, unique robotic assault vehicles and play modes including Elimination, Team Elimination, Post Grab and Fugitive.

A Suit of Destruction
Vital Suits (or VS) are machinery specially developed to suit the extreme conditions on E.D.N. III and replace heavy working equipment brought over from Earth at the beginning of colonization. VS are equipped with a power output device that allows them to utilize Thermal Energy collected from the Akrid without any processing. They are equipped with a variety of weaponry and high mobility in order to battle the Akrid, but they can be especially deadly to humans as well.

Different VS allow the player to perform different maneuvers. The basic GT-01 was originally created to assist with aid efforts at the start of colonization. As a result, it is limited in its expandability and armor. Conversely, the GTF-11 was the first VS to be equipped with an advanced posture control system originally designed for space fighters. This allows the GTF-11 to be outfitted with flight propulsion, and as a result it has been heavily used in the current colonization effort.

An Alien Horde
Indigenous creatures to the planet, Akrid have adapted to the extremely low temperatures. All Akrid possess the ability to extract a rare mineral from the frozen ground and chemically convert it inside themselves into "Thermal Energy" and use it as their energy source. Humans discovered the Thermal Energy inside the Akrid and fight them over the valuable resource in order to survive the deadly cold.

A number of different Akrid ply the vast snow fields of E.D.N. Chryatis, for example, is extremely aggressive and has heightened senses. Upon sensing thermal energy that it traces from any living being other than another Akrid, it immediately attacks the source as a threat that must be eradicated. Once in attack mode, the Chryatis won't stop until all traces of thermal energy are gone. While Chryatis is busy eliminating prey on the ground, the smaller Trilid Akrid take to the skies. Weak on their on but strong in swarms, Trilid attack in groups to overcome and confuse their opponents.

However, not all Akrid are what they appear to be. Dongo, a crawling Akrid, has an extremely hard outer shell that forms a nearly indestructible armor. It attacks by curling into a ball and rolling into or over foes at high speed, or by using its large pincers for stomping and crushing. The Undeep Akrid uses tenticles that act as a sort of radar. This allows it to pick up on the movement of Vital Suits from miles away. The most mysterious of all the Akrid, not much is known about these giant creatures.

A Worthy Arsenal
There are many types of weapons available and while some weapons are meant for use while operating on foot, others are meant for being loaded onto Vital Suits for more aggressive pushes forward. The Vital Suit weapons can also be used separately from the Vital Suit and do pack a more powerful punch, but are much heavier, bulkier, and more difficult to carry in combat.

Your standard issue rifle is a machine gun, firing 5.56mm low-caliber high-velocity rounds and allowing you to lay down fire while moving, perfect for taking down multiple Akrid in a hurry! The semi-automatic rifle, on the other hand, comes complete with a high powered scope to allow you to zoom in on your target. Shots from this weapon can even pierce thin layers of Vital Suit armor, should such a confrontation become necessary.

Hand grenades round out your basic arsenal and can be used as both a strategic and "twitch" weapon. They have a standard range and damage and are very easy to use. Due to their round shape, they bounce and ricochet easily, while shooting these hand grenades produces a larger, more powerful explosion- a key strategy in battle!

Microware Crazy Taxi was an arcade game turned Dreamcast showcase that really helped sell the system. Now that the Dreamcast is on its last legs, Sega throws crazed drivers everywhere a bone by moving the sequel to the system. Crazy Taxi 2 is the same as Crazy Taxi, only crazier!

First off, Sega moved the scenery from hilly San Francisco to the narrow urban canyons of New York City—which is a bad thing if the hills in the first game were an attraction. But this one has Central Park, and that's a thrill unto itself. Also, Crazy Taxi 2 lets you pick up multiple passengers (on occasion), which is the best way to keep that timer up and score bigger points.

Once again you've got aggravating and conspicuous advertising in the game—from Burger King and KFC to clothing stores and other real-world destinations. Masters of Mayhem and Offspring supply the music. The Offspring song is a new one—at least we're pretty sure it is—but like all Offspring songs it sounds like the one from the last game.

Additionally, there are new Crazy Stunts you can perform. Crazy Golf entails a run at a massive ball, with a goal of smacking it a good 100 yards. Crazy Balloon 2 challenges you to pop all the balloons in a short span of time. Plus there are three more minigames you can play. You can play arcade style with a set time limit, or on a big or small NYC map.

The controls are tight and easily as good as last time, but some players may still have trouble performing some of the more difficult tricks. Also, this game is extremely similar to the first one. Anyone bored with Crazy Taxi isn't going to find Crazy Taxi 2 a breath of fresh air. But the game is still really fun for players of all ages. It's crazy, wild, and a completely realistic simulation of a real NYC cab ride. —Andrew S. Bub

Just as with the other victims swarming the street of Lasria, the Technocyte Virus imbues Hayden with powerful, inhuman abilities. These abilities are not static and as they progress they cause severe, accelerated pain; pain that eventually drives their hosts insane, turning them quite literally into monsters of superhuman power. Hayden possesses an unexpected resistance to this maddening pain, but his body is not spared the mutations caused by the virus. The first of these are metal armor that grows from his body and a three bladed, throwable weapon called a "glaive" which explodes from his right arm and can regenerate if lost. But these are only the beginning. Eventually players may also gain the power of limited invisibility, the use of a bulletproof shield and an assortment of deadly melee attacks.

As Hayden slashes his way through the mutants overrunning Lasria he stumbles upon a plot by a rogue operative and his private army of henchmen to harness the power of the strongest of these mutants for some dark purpose. No longer entirely human, but not a mindless mutant Hayden must make a decision whether to use his own new powers to stop this plot or look the other way. But regardless of his choice, he has become the target of both the blind rage of his fellow mutants and a shadowy paramilitary group that seeks to control them.

Weapons: Glaive, Guns and the Black Market
Dark Sector is far from the traditional third-person shooter. The glaive is the game’s signature weapon and as players gain experience they will come to see that it is not only a stylish weapon, but also much more versatile than the traditional firepower available in-game. It is of course deadly as a slashing weapon and can be thrown great distances, but as Hayden’s powers evolve the glaive can be used in unexpected ways, ranging from siphoning and focusing elemental features like fire and freezing cold on enemies, to opening doors and retrieving items from inaccessible areas. But this doesn’t mean that players can shun the conventional weapons scattered throughout the game, quite the opposite.

To be successful players must successfully journey underground to the game’s ‘black market’ where they can purchase new weapons with scavenged rubles and also upgrade their existing weapons. Some of these upgrades include increasing a weapon’s firing rate, larger ammo clips, the ability to fire two simultaneous rounds and a ‘puncture ability’ that allows you to shoot through any enemy to hit another standing behind him. Finding the entrances to the black market are important because firearms in the game are biologically sensitive to mutant powers and unless altered to ignore the existence of altered DNA are useless to the mutated Hayden.

Gameplay Modes and Features
Not only does Dark Sector contains a deep singleplayer story mode, but in addition it features multiplayer functionality allowing players to harness Hayden Tenno’s mutant powers in two different ways, both in awesome 10-person online multiplayer combat. The two modes include:

Infection Mode: Think of this as ‘tackle the guy with the glaive.’ In this timed mode one player assumes the role of a fully-powered Hayden Tenno, complete with shield, invisibility and melee capabilities, while the other nine play as human operatives trying to kill him and take his place. The player in the role of Hayden receives a single point for each kill made, while the soldier that takes him down gets 2, plus the right to wield the glaive in the next go around. Players making assists in the slaying of Hayden receive one point as well. The player with the most points at the end of the round wins.

Epidemic Mode: In this team-based mode, with a set number of rounds per match, two teams, each made up of one Hayden and a group of soldiers, battle to kill the other team’s Hayden. A single point is awarded to each team per kill of the opposing Hayden. Each Hayden begins at full strength and the team with the most points at the end of the round wins.

Other features available in both multiplayer modes include voice chat and global leaderboards.

The Birth of a Superhero
Whether in singleplayer or multiplayer modes the developers of Dark Sector have endeavored to link every action of the player to the mutant evolution of Hayden Tenno. This means that as players progress through the game defeating bosses as well standard enemies they increase Hayden’s mutant abilities and advance his disease. It’s a catch-22 that with every victory Hayden becomes less human, but one that the game’s storyline relishes as the one-time hitman slowly and unsurely morphs into a hero.
